The Past & the Present are for the Future

Thursday August 18th, 2011

Recently I was fortunate enough to visit and fellowship with some family members who have been separated from my family for most of our lives. I was totally awe struck by the similarities, like-mindedness, and sheer love this part of the family gave to me and got from me. So, back home I decided to dedicate this show to knowing the past and present in order to move ahead towards a bright future.

With this show I reached out to a community mental health professional, Tracy Stubblefield, LICSW to help provide some perspective on what are some of the journeys we can take when we are addressing our pasts, presents, and futures. I thank her for her time, her honesty, and her willingness to share with our audience today. Sit back in the parlor, kick your feet up, listen in and be here with us now. My hope is this music and talk will heal some of this today.

Feel free to hit us at the twitter handles below;

Articulation Summer

July 14, 2011 Show

With the heat just upon us I thought it would be appropriate for us to explore just how Summer is spelled out, that's right S-U-M-M-E-R. The songs heard today on Sophie's Parlor will begin with one of those letters in show I like to call Articulation Summer. Meaning just what does it take for a women to be in a summertime frame of mind. Looking forward to your calls,

Andrea, Diva of the Day

She who Creates

Today I explore, through music, the ways and the whys of women who create. Sit back relax and soak up the last bit of Spring this afternoon. In our studios we will have Elise Bryant, a representative from the 2011 Great Labor Arts Exchange.

Take a look at my new formatted playlist, that's right WPFW is moving on up in the technological world! It's definitely due to our graciously loyal and supportive listeners like YOU!

Please listen in, tell a friend and be sure to catch me tweeting LIVE! during the show @dreaofwaters. Also this playlist can be found online at www.wpfw.org.

Special thanks to my fellow Sophie's producer Lakeisha Harrison for assisting with the show today.

See you all soon--Andrea, Diva of the Third Thursdays on Sophie's Parlor.

She is protest, world warriors in progress

In honor of the birthday of Dr. King and Patrice Lumumba who was assassinated this week, I wanted to showcase sisters, worldwide, lifting their voices and their instruments in protest.

Some of these sisters are ones we know, some are ones we don't, but all are the epitome of dreams, hopes, and aspirations for humanity. I hope you all enjoy this amazing journey this beautiful afternoon.

Thank you to all the folks who called this afternoon giving me kudos, praising the music and women you heard, or generally showing support. Special shout out to Mabet of Habesha Market and Kat Okedeyi of LSP.
