This is the Grapevine, a collection of community events we can attend to support one another, grow and make 2008 the year we Shine. Events coming up this week are as follows:

Thursday June 19th
WPFW is proud to be the media sponsor for Brothers and Sisters International, Inc. (a Washington, DC based, non-profit organization that devotes its time to addressing the global human condition) special screening of the award-winning documentary, “Music Is My Life, Politics My Mistress,” The Story of Oscar Brown, Jr. at the Historical Society of Washington at 7:00 pm. Saturday June 21th

Upcoming/ Ongoing Events and Notices
emma’s revolution (a musical uprising of truth and) returns to Loudoun June 21, 2008. The benefit concert will be held at St. James, 10 East Broad Way in Lovettsville, at 7:30 pm. A backstage pass party with the artists and a silent auction will begin at 6:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased by contacting events@equalityloudoun.org or calling 703.431.0882, and are also available at Greater Goods, 1 S. Loudoun St. in Lovettsville. Mama Mia! The musical built around the songs of ABBA (“Dancing Queen,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “Mama Mia”) is touring a version here at The National Theatre. The plot is built on a bride’s search among her mother’s old boy friends for her father so she can have him give her away at the wedding. The show will be running from June 24th to July 13th. Theatre Camp will be at Venus Theatre from July 21st to August 22nd from 9am to 5pm weekly. The group will experience introductory work, spend a week seeing professional plays, and spend three weeks exploring and creating their own show. Thursday June 5th
LCPA presents New Orleans:Spirit a’ Risen a discussion about the challenges New Orleans artist face in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Street artist Veronica Leandrez and Bedonna Wakeman will be in attendance. Come see their art at the Pickford Theater Madison Bldg. Third Floor of the Library of Congress from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Saturday June 7th
Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure 5K Walk/Run will be in Washington, DC on the National Mall this Saturday. To sign up to be apart of this wonderful event or learn more on http://www.nationalraceforthecure.org.

On June 22nd Sisters4Sisters, Inc in collaboration with the Beauty Industry will Discuss and Distribute information and resources on Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention and other Needed Services designed with Women and Girls in Mind. Along with a program entitled Mondays with a Mission, which provides complimentary hair and beauty services for Women and Girls in Need and in Life Transition.
